This morning I was reading My Utmost for His Highest, which is a daily devotional by Oswald Chambers. Today's reading really spoke to me. It says this:
"The way we continually talk about our own inabilities is an insult to our Creator. To complain over our incompetence is to accuse God falsely of having overlooked us."
I struggle with this often. Many people may think I am humble by saying that I am not good at something, when I really I know that I am good at it. But this is like a slap in the face to God, who has given me these abilities and talents to be used for His glory. It is not humility in God's eyes at all. It is dangerous for us to live in this "spirit of poverty," where all we can say is "I'm not good enough," or "I can't do it," or "that could never happen." God, on the other hand, is endless and can do anything in us and through us. So what we find is summed up in what Chambers writes at the end of the devotion:
"There is only one relationship that really matters, and that is your personal relationship to your personal Redeemer and Lord. If you maintain that at all costs, letting everything else go, God will fulfill His purpose through your life."
This speaks of a focused life, which I have learned is the most effective, powerful, and fulfilling life anyone can live. Sometimes I feel like a "Jack of all trades," being good a many things, but great at nothing. My life-focus is too wide. When we are focused, we can do great things, but when we are not, our lives can become useless and sometimes even destructive. Remember that a flood is just a river that couldn't decide where to go. So my goal is to live a focused life, and move beyond just being good at many things and into being great at the one thing God has destined for me to do.

this begs the question, what if you don't know what God has planned for you?
i don't, and i'm beginning to think that just wanting to know His plan for my life isn't enough. people say that He clarifies in the midst of obedience, so should we just pick something and do it?
i know there is just one plan, but i don't think it's the straight line of "right-God's-will" that we make it out to be. His plan must be like a huge field we can run around in, because i've noticed that leaving it's boundaries is harder than you'd think.
so yeah...
the enemy has a sly way of convincing us that we're not good enough and we believe it. God continually tells us that we're more than enough, that we are better than 'good', yet we have a hard time understanding or believing it.
God works in very mysterious ways and most of us will never comprehend it. He reveals His plans in His time. So even if we wanted to know his plans for us now, and that we're ready to do his plans now, if He says "not yet" then we must wait on Him. Until then, we must sit still, prepare ourselves (better yet allow Him to prepare us), and be ready to carry out His plan.
When the day comes when He asks if you would be part of His plan(big or small), we have a choice of being obedient or be disobedient and say that we're not good enough.
you're right, Kyle. When God says that we're made just as He intended according to His purpose, we pretty much call Him a liar and say "no i'm not; i can't do it; i'm not good enough". At least I do it. We need to be released from this deception and listen to the Truth.
PS: does Satan get points for every Christian he incapacitates? probably not but it's a thought. hehehe.
PPS: Thanks for the message. I read them and i'm glad people are posting more stuff. i was reading the same one over and over for a while. hahaha
thanks! glad there are people reading. i will continue to make posts.
I agree with both of you. It is hard to discern what God's best for us is (the best path we can take). Is it something so specific, or is it more that He will bless whatever we choose because we do it unto Him? This is a very important question for me.
However, in the midst of all this, a good verse for me to remember is this:
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Gal. 6:9
